
Some modules in the SmartBlock I/O Series, from Horner Automation, are considered "mature" and will soon no longer be in production. We recommend considering the Horner OCS-I/O for new users and new applications in need of remote Input / Output.
SmartMod Modbus I/O for Industrial Automation Control
SmartMod I/O Configuration settings are mapped into Modbus Register space. Thus, configuration data may be modified with any Modbus/RTU Commander (Master) device. We have developed a variety of Cscape application files, which allow a Horner OCS automation controller to act as a SmartMod configuration device. Initial configuration of SmartMod RS485 half duplex module should occur on an individual basis, since all modules come from the factory with a default Modbus ID of 1. Once each module on the network has its own unique Modbus ID, further configuration adjustments can be made with the entire network powered.

Switch to Horner OCS-I/O
The Horner OCS-I/O is a flexible, highly expandable Input/Output system that can be applied as a local expansion I/O or as remote I/O distributed over hundreds of meters. With expandability up to 7 modules per base as well as 16 bases per network, OCS-I/O can handle almost every Input / Output need. Additionally, it includes a CsCAN In and CsCAN Out port, which allows users to easily daisy-chain multiple bases without requiring extraneous custom wiring.
